چکیده
A preliminary version of this paper was presented at the AIAA Aviation 2020 forum (Paper 2020-2525).This provides an insight into grid generated turbulence for aeroacoustic studies. Several passive grids square bars were tested in open-jet facility University Bristol. The geometric properties and their position within tunnel contraction nozzle varied to quantify influence on average statistical flow as well self-noise. Moreover, case studies involving interaction noise generation with a NACA0012 airfoil cylinder conducted. Turbulence intensity, integral length scale, anisotropy by each characterized hot-wire measurements, associated far-field measured microphone array. results show that downstream evolution intensity scale comparable closed test-section wind-tunnel first hydraulic diameter exit. However, beyond diameter, plateaus scales rapid growth. positioned closest exit produced isotropy high levels but spectra suffered from contamination located farthest performed best terms could generate almost same level

متن کاملQuantum Turbulence Generated by Grid Motion in Superfluid He
The mechanism by which the quantized vortex tangle in a turbulent superfluid system decays remains little understood [1]. Research into the subject suggests that Kelvin waves play an integral part in the dissipation process [2]. To generate quantum turbulence, a grid is dragged through 4 He which has condensed into the superfluid state. Oscillations in the motion of this grid remain a problem, ...
متن کاملEnergy spectrum of grid-generated He II turbulence.
A grid of bars towed through a sample of He II produces both superfluid turbulence and classical hydrodynamic turbulence. The two velocity fields-in the normal fluid and in the superfluid-have been observed to have the same energy spectral density over a large range of scales. Here, we introduce a characteristic scale l(q)=2 pi(epsilon/kappa(3))(-1/4), where epsilon is the rate of turbulent ene...
متن کاملUltrasound Technique for Prediction of Statistical Characteristics of Grid-Generated Turbulence
Ultrasonic measurement techniques can be used to determine some characteristics of turbulent flows. In this work measurements of the difference in propagation times of ultrasonic waves along two paths are combined with the Kolmogorov (j )-power law to study characteristics of grid-generated turbulence. The paper focuses on ultrasonic measurements of turbulent flow using the travel-time techniqu...
متن کاملLagrangian measurements of inertial particle accelerations in grid generated wind tunnel turbulence.
We describe Lagrangian measurements of water droplets in grid generated wind tunnel turbulence at a Taylor Reynolds number of R(lambda)=250 and an average Stokes number (St) of approximately 0.1. The inertial particles are tracked by a high speed camera moving along the side of the tunnel at the mean flow speed. The standardized acceleration probability density functions of the particles have s...
